THE BARCINA, BY ROADS OF WILD GOATS

At the outset, I will take the lead to tell you about the neighboring summit of the Barcina, where they often frequent the wild goats of the Ports.

With the top of the Barcina we know each other well. Every morning, when the sun wakes us from the horizon of the Ebro Sea, we look and greet each other. I from my 1441 meters, and the Barcina from its 1353 meters.

In this proposal I invite you to visit the Barcina touring its crest and observing the fantastic panoramic views that it hides from its summit. Also, if you visit the summit of the Barcina, you will surely come to greet the Hispanic goats (Capra pyrenaica); Who love to crown our tops.

I have to recognize that I have a special love for wild goats. I assure you that many days I see no one but them, and the company, at these altitudes is much appreciated. At the same time they make me feel very proud, since als Ports concentrates the main redoubt of this species in the Iberian peninsula. In fact, here lives a stable population of about 3,600 specimens.

Let me explain a few things about goats. The females measure about 120 centimeters in length and 60 in high, and they have a sufficiently short horns, similar to the one of the domestic goats. The males, however, can reach 150 centimeters in length and 80 in height, reaching a weight of 110 kilos. The horns of these are thicker and can be as much as three times that of the females. Adult males also have a more elongated face and the typical dark beard beneath their jaw.
